Our vision is to connect, engage, and inspire all students in the Ayer Shirley Regional School District to reach academic excellence. We, the educators of the Ayer Shirley Regional School District, will instill habits of reflection and inquiry to challenge our students in setting ambitious academic and personal goals. Students will develop a strong voice to express thoughts and ideas in the community and the confidence to showcase their talents and successes in preparation for entry into college and the world of work.

Welcome Back!

August 25, 2015

Dear ASRSD Families,

It seems as though I was just writing to wish all a happy summer, and now I write to welcome all back for the 2015-2016 school year. The summer is passing by, but we still have a month or so to go. Summer brings such special feelings of love, fun, laughter, and warmth! Life is about making memories, and I hope you and your family and friends have had many memorable experiences this summer.

The first day of school for students in Grades 1-12 is Tuesday, September 1st. We welcome back our Kindergarten and Pre- Kindergarten students on Wednesday, September 2nd. There is a week to go, so please ensure your child has completed his/her summer reading assignment. The bus routes are posted on the website and were published online in the newspaper last Friday. Principals have been sending out information, so please check your email. Speaking of leadership, we have some new faces in administration:

What is new in our district this year?

The new website is coming soon!!! It is much easier to navigate and information is more accessible.

We have replaced the Parent Portal, Edline, with ParentPlus. This new Parent Portal will provide you with easier access to your child’s academic information and attendance. More information will be sent out in a few weeks.

At the middle school in Grades 6-8, we have a new math curriculum resource, Eureka Math. Eureka Math is research-based and has proven success in improving students’ mathematic achievement.

Many Grade 8 students will take French I or Spanish I, and Integrated Math I, which upon successful completion of course requirements, students will receive high school credits.

We have added Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school: AP Biology and AP Physics. We also added the courses, Engineering I & II and CAD I & II.
The high school offers four career pathways: STEM, Honors, Early College, MassCore.

At the high school and middle school, we are adding Naviance, which is a tool that students and parents can access with the goal of college and career planning. Please be on the lookout for more information on this program. Kindergarten and Grade 1 classrooms now have technology centers with their new classroom iPads.

Students in Grades 2-5 will benefit from an upgrade to Accelerated Reader 360.
We have expanded our Wi-Fi capabilities in all buildings to accommodate the influx of mobile devices.

The buildings are in great shape and a big thanks to our custodial staff. We have completed extensive landscaping and cleaning. We also had the inmates in the Work to Release program painting and cleaning at the LAW and PH.

On Wednesday, August 26, the Community Forum sponsored by ASEF is happening at the high school. Details are on the website. We hope to see you there! Another big event coming up is the Open House at the high school on Saturday, September 19th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The addition/renovation of the high school will be complete. Come see the new and fabulous high school! You won’t believe your eyes! It is just a spectacular facility!

As we embark on a new year, we ask that each and every parent partner with us in your child’s education. The research shows that when a parent is highly engaged in the education of their child, the child’s performance and achievement improves. Education Nation has a valuable website, Parent Toolkit. It may be accessed at www.parenttoolkit.com. This website provides parents helpful advice, tips, and information on parent involvement and education. Please click on the link below to a very short video, School Swing, to get you and your child off to a successful start to the school year.

All of us in the ASRSD are very excited to start a new school year. It promises to be a great and rewarding year for you and child. All of our wonderful teachers are preparing for your child’s arrival on September 1. We are committed to ensuring academic excellence for each and every student. My sincere best wishes for a successful year!
