Joyce has three sons, all of whom attended Shirley Public Schools and went on to have successful college careers. She was an active leader in the Shirley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years and was the Committee Chairman in both groups. Joyce still coordinates a very successful annual food drive with the Scouts. Her interest in children prompted her to run for Shirley School Committee where she served for nine years and three as Chairman. During that time she also served on the Middle School Study Committee, the Design Committee and the Building Committee. The formation of the new Regional District prompted Joyce to run again and she was elected to a one-year term in 2010 and then a three-year term in 2011. Joyce has been a member of the Negotiating Team, which recently concluded a new contract for the combined teacher's union. She is also a member of the ASRSD Building Committee and Chair of the Sustainability Working Group.
Pat was first elected to the Ayer School Committee in April 2008. He served as Chair of the Interim Ayer Shirley Regional School Committee in 2010. Pat has been on the Ayer Shirley Regional School Committee (ASRSC) since the district came into being in 2011 and has served as Chair of the ASRSC in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Pat served as an alternate on the Regional Planning Board from 2008-2010, which put together the regional agreement between Ayer and Shirley. Pat served on the ASRSD High School Building Committee, including being part of the finances, public relations and interiors working groups. Pat serves on the Ayer Shirley Athletic Hall of Fame and has coached youth football, basketball and baseball. He has two high school aged children and is married to Sheila who has served on the PTO at Page Hilltop and at the ASRMS and is a board member and past President of the Ayer Shirley Education Foundation.
Michele has been on the ASRSC since being elected to a three-year term in May of 2011. Michele is an active board member of the AEF, now ASEF since 2008 and was a former member of PHT PTO. She served as a parent on the Regional Strategic Planning Committee. She has served on the contract negotiation team and represented the Committee at DEAC meetings. Michele has two children in the district; Nicholas, a member of the Class of 2020 and Emily, a member of the Class of 2022.
Born and raised in Shirley, Jim attended St. Anthony's parochial school, LAW junior high school and graduated from Ayer High School in 1974. Jim earned his BSME from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and MSME from Boston University. Jim has 10 years experience in the design and manufacture of aircraft engines for General Electric, Lynn, MA with his last position being as the manager of process technology operation for Lynn Engine Group. Jim left on a 1 year leave of absence to help out with the family business, (Shirley Fuel and Gas), 22 years ago. Jim currently resides in Shirley with his wife Beth, and three elementary school-aged children, Deran, Catherine and Sierra.
Jonathan was elected to a three year term in May of 2015. Serving on the ASRSC is his first elected position. In 2014 Jonathan served on the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee which selected the finalists for the new district superintendent. Jonathan is a 2001 graduate of Ayer High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from Fitchburg State College in 2005. He is married to Erin, and together they have two children, Jonah and Finleigh, who will be joining the district in the coming years.
Mr. Gleason was re-elected to his 2nd 3-year term on the regional school committee In April 2015. Prior to that, he was elected to a 2-year term on the regional school committee in 2010 and served on the interim regional school committee. Mr. Gleason was also a member of the Ayer School Committee since September 2007 after he was appointed to complete the term of a member who had moved out of town. He was elected to a full 3 year term the following April. Mr. Gleason also volunteers on the ASRHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. He has one child in the school district, an 8th grade boy Liam at the middle school who is active in music, drama, student council, youth venture, and sports (high school cross country and track). Mr. Gleason is married to Brenda, an active school supporter who had served on the Ayer PTO board and who currently is a member of the Ayer Shirley Education Foundation (ASEF).
