Our vision is to connect, engage, and inspire all students in the Ayer Shirley Regional School District to reach academic excellence. We, the educators of the Ayer Shirley Regional School District, will instill habits of reflection and inquiry to challenge our students in setting ambitious academic and personal goals. Students will develop a strong voice to express thoughts and ideas in the community and the confidence to showcase their talents and successes in preparation for entry into college and the world of work.

Connected, but alone?

How do you communicate with friends, family, and co-workers? How do your children connect with their friends, teachers, and relatives? Like many families, my own family stays connected via text, phone, Facetime, etc, and it is an easy and convenient way to keep or to get in touch.

However, think about how reliant teenagers and 20somethings are on technology and social media. Are they connected and alone? What has this done to their social and interviewing skills when they don't even have to pick up a phone to have a real audible conversation?

In Sherry Turkle's video, "Connected, but alone?" she addresses both the positives and negatives of social media and technology on today's youth. In addition, she makes us think about what kind of connections we want to have. The URL is as follows: https://www.ted.com/talks/sherry_turkle_alone_together
