ASRHS Drama Club Remembers 9/11 in Theatrical Commemorative

AYER, MA: Ayer Shirley Regional High School (ASRHS) Drama Club will be presenting a theatre piece concerning the events of September 11, 2001 – “We Remember…9/11,” September 14, 2016 at 7pm in the ASRHS Auditorium, 141 Washington Street in Ayer. Admission is ... Continue free and open to the public, though the production rating should be considered PG-13. For more information, call (978) 772-2545, email ayershirleydrama@gmail.com or visit www.jacneed.com/ASYD/AyerShirleyDrama.htm

This production is a performance of Meron Langsner’s “Bystander 9/11,” a documentary drama drawn from the experiences of New Yorkers during the September 11th attacks and their immediate aftermath. Ironically, the play often uses humor to bring home the harshest realities of the situation. This story is taken from Langsner’s first-hand experiences in New York City; from being in the subway station under the Twin Towers when the planes hit to watching the buildings fall from nearby streets, and then returning to the area first as a Red Cross volunteer and then once more as a civilian worker when the Financial District was reopened to a world changed forever. Behind the live readers, including ASRHS students Catherine Cooper, Liam Gleason, Nadia Nalesnik, Vannah Pyatt and Deran Quinty, is a presentation of timed theatrical imagery that will bring viewers to the day, to the moments of that fateful day, helping them to share in the emotions of the time – even if they weren’t there to experience it as it occurred.

ASRHS Drama Director JulieAnn Govang commented, “It’s important to keep young people educated, not just in history class, but in our daily teaching. Just as I will never be able to fully comprehend The Holocaust, the majority of kids that will see this production have NO idea how devastating the events of 9/11 were to our country (and the world). It is everyone’s responsibility to keep history alive for younger generations so that things will never be forgotten, but instead, learned from.” Marianne Cooper will be directing the production with stage and technical support by ASRHS Seniors Catherine Cooper and Jared Magno.

ASRHS Drama Club will be presenting “We Remember…9/11” on September 14, 2016 at 7pm in the ASRHS Auditorium, 141 Washington Street in Ayer. Admission is free. For information, call (978) 772-2545, email ayershirleydrama@gmail.com or visit www.jacneed.com/ASYD/AyerShirleyDrama.htm.
